Alexander Paine Music Author Editor

Alexander is a gifted and precise author, with years of experience writing, editing and proofreading various texts.

As a writer, Alexander has an extraordinary capability to craft texts in a wide range of “voices”, depending upon the context, from academic tracts and critical pieces, to programmatic and evocative prose.

Alexander is equally capable as an author of academic and non-academic texts alike. His precise and clear manner, and ability to quickly understand and synthesise concepts and themes, makes him a formidable academic author, able to write on a variety of musical and non-musical subjects alike.  However, Alexander’s talents go beyond the academic and the technical, having an especial skill for descriptive prose and texts.  His knack for seeing the wider picture and his love for weaving divergent ideas into a compelling journey lend him an exceptional authorial voice, capable of evoking and describing a range of emotive and intellectual concepts and uniting them into a single vision.  In particular, Alexander excels at programmatic curation and description, with his broad artistic and musical knowledge, his skill for research, and his significant prowess as a writer all lending themselves to the production of unique and engaging texts.

Alexander is also extremely familiar with the typical demands of artistic professional texts, having written or helped to write program notes, artistic biographies, motivation letters, grant proposals, and presentations and lectures.  He is also acquainted with and well-practised in a range of bibliographic standards and needs, and is able to proofread or guide budding authors who may be struggling to understand this facet of academic authorship, or who may be looking for guidance concerning the formation of their abstracts or papers.

As an editor, Alexander takes especial care to maintain the original author’s voice and intent, working closely to ensure that meaning and tone remain exactly as intended, whilst bettering and refining both to ensure quality and precision.  His familiarity with a wide range of styles and needs allows him great scope in his editing work, and his empathetic and detail-oriented skills as a teacher ensure that he is consistently able to deliver texts that are beautifully crafted, yet lose none of the original’s meaning or intent.  Alexander is also familiar with the particular challenges that authors may face when working in English as a second language, and has a proven track record in working with such authors to ensure their work meets the highest standards possible.

In his spare time, Alexander is also a keen critical writer, maintaining a personal blog that dabbles in creative and analytical pieces.  He intends to expand his writing practice over the coming years, and is actively working on a range of long term academic and creative projects.
